SnoPlanks Co-founder James Nicol was seeking a snowboard that allowed him to surf the snow. When he didn’t find what he wanted, he began shaping it himself.
James grew up skiing and snowboarding in Oregon. However he moved to San Diego for school in 2000 and caught the surfing bug while living in Mission Beach. His love for surfing kept him in San Diego for ten years and it was during this stint that he started shaping boards in his backyard
After James met his wife, who was originally from Oregon as well, the two decided they wanted to return to their roots to start a family. Both sharing a love for Mt. Bachelor, they packed up their bags and called Bend their new home.
Being reconnected with Mt. Bachelor and the surf style features of the mountain inspired James to begin messing around and pressing snowboards in his garage, literally bending plywood and cutting out boards, glassing them like surfboards for strength and flex. Utilizing Mt. Bachelor as his testing facility, James would try out new shapes, consistently testing and trying new materials, and slowly the shapes began to progress.
When he discovered bamboo in 2014 and began using the wood material to produce boards, James knew he had found the answer. A board that was light, had an incredible amount of pop in the wood, and was extremely responsive in powder conditions. Knowing he was onto something, James continued to dial in the product and SnoPlanks was born.View full product details

Over the last couple years, he has become involved in the manufacturing side of the company, he states “getting to make a product that someone will have fun on is so rewarding!”

For Marissa, there is no greater feeling than being outside amongst the mountains and trees. She grew up cross country skiing and ice skating on the lake in her Michigan backyard. These days, her backyard consists of mountains in the wilderness all over North America. Marissas snowboard and splitboard take her to new and unexpected places every storm and season. She enjoys the weather, no matter what it brings and doesn’t mind putting in some solid work to make some turns, pop off some pillows or just point it down the mountain! Though, nothing beats the limitless freedom of a snowy landscape, she stays balanced with healthy doses of studying as yogis do, cruising a skate and ripping around on a bike.
This season, Marissa will be starting her winter in Central Oregon and then traveling onward from there. Marissa wants to expand and hone her skills as a mountaineer and plans on a few winter camping overnighters. All in all, she plans to stay flexible with the weather and to shred what she's been given with where she is at.View full product details

Brian grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and started skateboarding at age 11. When his mom proposed a family ski vacation shortly after, snowboarding seemed to be the obvious choice. His passion for snowboarding lead him to attend the University of Vermont to pursue a life closer to bigger mountains and more snow. After graduating with a degree in Fine Art in 2012, he once again followed his passion for snowboarding to Bend, where he could be even closer to even bigger mountains with even more snow! Once he realized he could take deep pow turns and skateboard all in the same day, Bend quickly became home. When not standing sideways, you can find Brian illustrating for a number of freelance clients or for his own business, BKZ|GRFX (www.bkzgrfx.com). Brian looks forward to being a part of the Snoplanks family and helping create the Gerry Lopez Street Surfers!View full product details
Charlie was born and raised in the backwoods of Montana. He grew up outside of Helena, and spent his days fishing, wakeboarding and roaming the shores of Canyon Ferry Lake. Winters were spent on the slopes of the small local hill, Great Divide, where he learned to snowboard almost 20 years ago. After going to school for engineering at Montana State University, Charlie moved to Boise, ID to experience life outside of Montana. Idaho couldn’t hold him for long as a few years later he moved to Bend to chase deeper pow and bigger trout. It was in Bend that he found my love for photography and splitboarding. Charlie considers himself lucky enough to call Bend his home for almost 7 years and has found his happy place whenever he’s in the backcountry with his camera in hand. Charlie works as an engineer for a research company when not stomping through the woods.
This winter, Charlie plans on pushing his splitboarding and photography to new heights by bagging new peaks and chasing storms across the PNW. He always makes a pilgrimage back to Montana to ride and he is also hoping to explore new terrain in the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho where he received his AIARE I certification last year. Pray For Snow!View full product details

JD grew up in Bend, OR riding Mt Bachelor and fell in love with snowboarding at a very young age thanks to his brother Will. Throughout high school, he focused mostly on the contest side of snowboarding, but slowly found out that riding new terrain and filming was what he was most passionate about. After a brief stint with the Burton Knowbuddy team, JD was asked to be apart of SnoPlanks and felt like he had finally landed at home.
This winter, JD will be residing in Everett, WA, where he plans to ride/film at Stevens Pass, Mt. Baker, Washington backcountry, and of course Mt Bachelor. Hopefully, he will be spending some time in Canada and if he’ lucky, Alaska. His biggest goals for this year are to split board as much as possible and constantly push himself out of his comfort zone. JD says “Snowboarding has done so much for me and has taught me so much about myself. To me it’s all about having fun with your friends while pushing yourself beyond your personal limitations.”View full product details

This winter Elijah expects that it will snow more than ever before and he intends to shred everything and anything. From park to pipe to freeriding to before school dawn patrol pow missions with his dad, Elijah is ready to attack it all. Andy Tullis lives in Bend Oregon and enjoys skating and snowboarding, while exploring the mountains and bowls. When he started riding boards in 1984, he also picked up his dad’s camera and began recording special moments when his friends were shredding. He quickly fell in love with the relationship between riding and photography. He realized early on that there was something special about riding powder lines and launching off wind lips with a varied crew of friends at Mount Bachelor. That's where he met SnoPlanks co-owner and board designer, James Nicol, while he was testing one of his early prototypes. It was a deep stormy pow day at the mountain. Over time, they became friends and Andy began helping James to develop a longboard design that would ride great anywhere. On both concrete and snow he is taking SnoPlanks designs and fine tuning them through riding and feedback. With a great crew of riders blended together to design, build and ride SnoPlanks boards, Andy looks forward to what the future will bring.
This winter, Andy plans on many early morning pow missions, riding primarily at Mt. Bachelor. He also has a few indoor skate ramp options available in the area, so skating is always an option even in the winter months. Trips to Mt. Hood and Mt. Baker are in works for Andy, which he is super stoked about. For the most part though, you will find Andy chasing pow and riding with his family and friends! My name is Kate Ediger and I am from Revelstoke BC, Canada. To me snowboarding isn't just a sport. Its my entire life. Learning to flow, change , be challenged and to progress in the mountains and on my snowboard. It's not only my career as a snowboard guide at a cat skiing operation but a complete way of life. Entering into that flow state of mind creates a way of life that is simpler and so intune with what matters. It helps us bond and connect together with others who also experience such a state. There is nothing comparable to floating down powder snow feeling weightless and free. the beautiful places my feet have taken me, the insane places my eyes have seen , the friendships I've made, the smiles I've had, the clarity, the calmness and the incredible life changing moments have all been in the mountains or in the surf. contentment and pure joy is the only way to describe it! I feel so honoured to ride behind a company that not only gets this as a way of life but the stoke is alive in every grain of wood on every product they make!View full product details
Nora, 19 years young from good ol' wine country of Virginia. I grabbed a snowboard at 7 and rode little dirt hills with snowguns in Pennsylvania for ten years until I came out to Bend last year. I'm a barista downtown at Lone Pine, and want to start roasting coffee as a side job to support myself. This season I'm just stoked to explore Mt. Bachelor more and hopefully spend some time in Salt Lake and Tahoe for some TransAms and party boarding.View full product details
Born in Philly and raised outside Chicago, "Tap" bolted for the mountains as soon as he left college, soaking up deep mountain culture in Telluride, Salt Lake and Big Sky before dropping into a professional career in the Bay Area, where he met his wife Anouk. But the mountains were always on the horizon and 2003 saw Jon and family make Bend their home.
Bend’s snowsurfing culture has been a constant source of inspiration...from the Dirksen Derby to the Big Wave Challenge, deep days on the backside and early mornings on the Cone, Tap’s always around shooting and capturing those moments that define our passion. His love for mountain culture also drove him to help found the Central Oregon Avalanche Association (www.coavalanche.org), where he still serves on the Board of Directors. Jon works in Bend for Oregon Media.
When the snow’s not flying, you can find Jon taking in float trips and music festivals in search of chrome fish and good times with his wife and two kids.View full product details

Marcus Avila has two happy places… the mountains and the ocean. He lives in San Clemente, California and owns two restaurants in Orange Country, which give him the ability to make midweek surgical strikes to Mammoth with his family during the winter, and score surf year round. He follows the swell and the powder, and his heart is in both sports even on the “off days”. When the waves are small, he is often seen sharing waves with his wife and 4-year-old twin boys. When the powder is tracked up he chases his boys up and down the bunny hill with his wife. His goals are to: stay stoked, work hard, play hard, and enjoy life to the fullest.
This season is looking promising for Marcus as long as the snows gods are nice to him. He has hopes for multiple powder days in Mammoth along with a trip to Telluride in March followed by a BC Heli trip. It’s looking to be an epic year to be on a Snoplank for Marcus. Marshall is a 26 year old, who was raised in Durango, Colorado and has been living in Bend Oregon since 2012. He is a snowcat operator, working at Mt Bachelor during the winter months and Mt Hood for most of the summer. Chasing snow year round never seems to get old and Oregon is a perfect place to do so and work with like minded people. Over the past 4 years, Marshall has had the pleasure of witnessing and experiencing first hand the evolution of SnoPlanks and is pleasantly surprised by the attention to detail in every board.
Marshalls winter plans include finding the perfect balance between his work (building super sweet terrain parks at Mt Bachelor) and skiing as much deep snow as possible.View full product details
